System Software

System software has 5 basic functions: hardware support, data access control, usage records, resource management and security. Give a brief description of each and an example. Answer must be ≥200 words.

• HARDWARE SUPPORT
  Hardware support is where there is a monitor there is all this information coming out of it, font, colour, pictures, Hardware support is the thing that controls what comes out, for example, you don’t control the screen by saying, on this dot i have a white pixel and this dot has a black pixel, all this is controlled by the hardware support, it controls the hardware for you, it takes care of all of it for you,
  EXAMPLE: Monitor
• DATA ACCESS CONTROL
  Hard drive, software files, document, mp3 video’s, 50 different programs, window media, movies, word, documents, the system software controls were each piece of this software is placed, so they don’t get muddled, what different things get accesed to. EXAMPLE: You can’t access each others accounts even though they are on the same data base.
• USAGE RECORDS
  Usage records are the records which the computer keeps of what is happening on its hard drive. It records what user logs on, what they do, websites they vist, how they use their time ect ect.
• RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
  Resource management is where all the resources are deployed in the most effective way. Examples of resources could be disk space, ram, ect ect. The computer chooses which program gets to run, and for how long that program runs, a computer can only do one thing at a time, however, since it does it so quickly it gives the illusion of doing multiple tasks at once.
• SECURITY
  Security is the defense a computer has to prevent hackers and viruses, an example is a fire wall. Another example is when you want to sign onto your school account it asks you for a password, this password is the security the computer has against the wrong people accessing the account.
