Cross Platform Software is where the software and their impletations can be made to work on multiple computer platforms.
Some examples of Cross Platform Software are;
The Microsoft Windows on the x86 architecture,
The Linux on the x86 architecture
The Mac OS X on the Power PC based Apple Macintosh ,
The x86 based Apple Macintosh systems
A well renkown video game known as Lara Craft Tomb Raider:Legend
Some Advantages are
-It allows many programs run on the same platform
Disadvantages are
-Using Cross Platform Software may increase application development time(when not used to)
-may also be considerably more complicated(since different platforms may have different subtle bugs)
-restricted to using the subset of features which are available on all platforms(may restrict final product)
-Scripting languages and virtual machines must be translated into native executable code each time the application is executed
